NRT's 50th Anniversary Home Skills Workshop Series
Do you want to learn how to grow your own vegetables at home? Interested in identifying the birds in your yard? Want to learn what is really involved with keeping bees? How about joining Sheep Pasture staff for paint night or sing along with your whole family?
2017 is the year to do all of those things and more at NRT!
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the NRT of Easton. To celebrate this milestone, the NRT will be hosting a series of workhops focusing on fun, low-tech outdoor, agricultural, recreational, and naturalist skills that are enjoying a revival in modern life.
The workshop series will run from March through September 2017, culminating in the celebration of the 44th annual Harvest Fair on
October 1st! Registration, cost, and scheduling information is available below each class description, and sign up forms will be available for download as each class registration opens.

All classes will meet at the NRT's Carriage House building unless otherwise noted. Minimum enrollments may be required for specific classes to run. In the case of a class being filled or a cancellation due to enrollment or weather, updates will be listed here and on the NRT home page as soon as possible. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all classes.

A Market in Your Backyard- Veggie Gardening for Beginners
Fifty years ago, almost everyone had a vegetable or herb garden. Thanks to a resurgence of interest in local food, more people than ever are looking to start their own gardens. Learn different methods of starting a simple home vegetable garden, from container plantings to raised beds. Topics will include soil preparation, garden location, choosing plants and seeds, natural pest management, and how to expand your garden manageably. Class is appropriate for anyone looking to learn how to grow some of their own veggies! Beginners welcome!

Identifying and Battling Invasives in Your Yard
Invasive species can damage habitats by outcompeting native plants and animals and is a tremendous problem that can begin in backyards and spread throughout the community. Learn about some of the invasive species that are found throughout our area, how they travel, and how to identify and manage them in your own yard. Then join us for a hike at Sheep Pasture to find and remove some of the invasive species on site in a fun and stress-relieving way!

Have you heard the buzz about keeping backyard bees? Backyard beekeepers help to support pollinator populations, benefit gardens, and can even supply locally produced honey. If you have ever wondered about what is involved with keeping bees, join us on June 17th for an overview of the beekeeping process. Learn about the equipment, schedule, rewards, and challenges keeping bees provides to see if it may be right for you. Participants will get to try samples of local honey, see equipment, and ask questions as well as take home a packet of resources.
Please note this is an introductory overview workshop and not a complete beekeeping "how to" class. Participants who are interested in learning more will receive information on where they can sign up for more in depth beekeeping classes in their area.

Learn to Create Your Own Compost
Please note this is a repeat presentation of the compost class offered in April. Materials presented will be the same for both classes.
Do you have lawn clippings every summer? Not sure what to do with those withered strawberries from the back of the refrigerator? Let us help you! Celebrate Earth Day every day by learning how to create valuable compost for your garden. Composting is a great way to add valuable nutrients to your soil, as well as to use up vegetable and yard waste. Learn what is involved in the process of composting as well as how to get started composting at home, regardless of where you live. Information and resources will be provided for all participants to take home.
Class space limited to 40 people, pre-registration required. Please note this is a beginner composting class. Walk in registration the day of the event may be allowed, only if space is available. Individuals, adults, and/or families are welcome to this workshop. Classes must have a minimum of 10 registered participants to run.

Sheep Pasture Family Paint Night!
Wednesday, August 9, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm
*This program meets at the Stable Barn (Sheep Pasture Camp Barn)
Join the NRT staff for a guided paint adventure at Sheep Pasture! Class leaders will provide everything you need to create a beautiful and fun piece of nature-themed artwork that you can take home. People of all abilities are welcome, even if you have never painted before!
Families will receive step-by-step instruction and all materials needed for painting; one kit/canvas will be provided per family. Additional supplies may be purchased for an extra fee if requested on registration form. Doors open at 6 pm, and painting begins promptly at 6:30 pm to allow time to complete paintings.
Class space is limited, pre-registration is required. Walk in registration the day of the event may be allowed if there are any unfilled spaces, but these classes are expected to fill quickly. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Family pricing is for up to 2 adults and 3 children. Please contact the NRT for larger group pricing.

Meet the NRT Animals!: Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 1:00-2:30 pm
Everyone loves the animals that call Sheep Pasture home! Join an NRT staff naturalist on a tour of the many animals that live at Sheep Pasture and greet visitors every day. Learn interesting facts about each type of animal on site and gain insight into what it takes to care for so many creatures every day. If time and conditions allow, participants will be allowed to feed the chickens on site. The NRT's indoor education animals may also be featured!
Individuals, adults, and/or families are welcome to this workshop.

Summer Sing Along at Sheep Pasture: RESCHEDULED TO THURSDAY, AUGUST 17th -
COMBINED WITH THE NRT FAMILY NIGHT HIKE @ 5:30 pm
* Meet at the picnic area in front of the Carriage House. Event has been rescheduled due to predicted thunderstorms. Family Night Hike meets at 5:30 pm and campfire will follow, weather permitting.
Join NRT staff to learn more about bioluminescence in nature! Then stay after the hike to relax by a campfire. How many nature songs do you know? Come share them with us! Benches and picnic tables will be available, or participants can bring chairs or blankets if desired. Marshmallows will be available for roasting while supplies last. Families are encouraged to come early to bring a picnic lunch at Sheep Pasture before the workshop begins. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Cost: No pre-registration is required for the night hike or campfire. We request a voluntary donation towards materials the night of the event. Workshop is open to all, regardless of ability to pay. NRT staff may close workshop to additional participants at their discretion.
