In-school programs

Looking to bring more enriching science experiences to your classroom?
NRT offers a wide variety of hands-on and ​standard-aligned science programs for Grades PreK-6. Many classes can be offered indoors in a classroom or science room setting, or may be offered outdoors in a recess space, garden, or other green space. 
NRT naturalists can alter the content of many programs to suit the needs of your group.  
Pricing is dependent on the program chosen and programs range in length from 45 minutes to 60 minutes.

Fluttering Butterflies
Topics: insect life cycles, animal characteristics and role play.
​Alignment with Life Sciences PreK-LS1-1(MA), PreK-LS1-2(MA), K-LS1-1 and
​K-LS1-2(MA).

What makes a butterfly unique? What do they eat and how do they grow? Learn more about butterflies with engaging hands-on activities.

Mammal Mania
Topics: mammal characteristics, native species, and animal behavior. Alignment with Life Sciences PreK-LS1-1(MA), 1-LS-1 and 1-LS1-2.
Why is a mammal a mammal? Understand mammal characteristics by transforming a classmate into a furry friend! This program includes mammal-focused storytelling and activities that your students will never forget.

Sustainable Energy
Topics: renewable and non-renewable energy, climate change and sustainability. Alignment with Earth and Space Sciences 4-ESS3-1.
Go green with energy! What energy sources are best for our planet? Students will investigate different sustainable energy sources and build their own pizza box solar ovens!

Alien Invaders
Topics: invasive species, food web dynamics, human impact, and environmental sustainability.
Alignment with Earth and Space Sciences 5-ESS3-1.

What are invasive species? How do they impact an environment? Students will learn the answers to these questions through a creative game experience.

Amazing Adaptations
Topics: animal adaptations and aquatic habitats.
​Alignment with Life Sciences 2-LS2-3(MA) and 2-LS4-1.

From fur to feathers and claws to talons, explore the unique adaptations different aquatic animals use to survive in the wild. Investigate these traits with pelts, skulls, shells and more!

Seasonal Survival
Topics: seasonal adaptations, endothermy, ectothermy, and animal characteristics. Alignment with Life Sciences 4-LS1-1.
How do animals survive the winter in New England? Learn about various animal survival strategies, seasonal adaptations, and much more!
