For example, we all know that trees are important because they produce oxygen through the process of photosynthesis. What you might not be aware of is the critical role trees play in removing pollutants from the air, thereby ridding the air of those harmful particles that cause burning in eyes, noses and throats and makes breathing difficult for those with asthma. Breathing highly polluted air can also result in cancer, birth defects, and lung, brain, and nerve damage. That’s why it is so important to get out there and take a walk in your favorite nature spots. Breathe in that fresh, clean air produced by your friendly neighborhood trees!
Also, who wants to be cooped up all day? Doesn’t matter whether you are at work or in your home, you will be surrounded by germs that you share with the people you spend your day with. So after work, come take a walk here at Sheep Pasture and cleanse yourself of those germs by upping your exercise and boosting your immune system.
You know that phrase “stop and smell the roses”? Some flowers such as roses and lavender are known to increase relaxation by lowering stress and anxiety levels. Furthermore, one Japanese study showed that when adults took walks through pine forests, their hostility and depression levels decreased significantly while liveliness increased. So again, if you’re feeling stressed or anxious, go hang out with some pine trees and take in the greenery. Soak in that scent of fresh pine and you’ll feel better afterwards!
Now I know we are all busy and taking time out for yourself can be difficult but try it. Try committing yourself to a nature walk once, maybe twice a week. What could it hurt?
