Many outdoor activities can take place in your own back yard or local park. Here at Sheep Pasture we take the campers in our Leadership Youth camp to Borderlands State Park. While there, the campers engage in fun team building, games, and planning activities that they will lead other campers in.
Many of the supplies needed to facilitate this day at the park are found right in your own home. One of the favorite games camp-wide is “Capture the Flag.” All you need is a bandana (the flag) and a spot to play. You don’t need a sprawling field or a huge lawn. A yard with fun hiding spots can make for a great afternoon.
“Salamander Tails” is another game we play that has the campers active and engaged. Everyone has a bandana sticking out of their pocket (their ‘tail’). Then it is a game of tag in which to ‘tag’ others, you must grab their bandana. Last one with a tail wins!
When it comes down to it, it isn’t so much the activity you and your family do, it’s the quality time that you spend together. So, go explore. Go camping. Build a fort. Be a kid again. That’s what summer is all about.
